How does one approach the writing of serious music at the beggining of the twenty first century? Certainly every composer often has to answer such a question. The world is full of haste and superficiality and for that reason we are here so that we can persuade some or other of you to turn off and ponder for a while. We are here so that we may illuminate things from a different angle, so that we may discover connections which the chaos keeps from us.
We are here chiefly in order to bestow gifts - I would like to give my listeners a piece of beauty, to share with the wonder of creation. Music is the greatest gift - it is always with us when we need it. It voices that which words are not able to express. It is a bridge between heaven and earth. Music is a miracle.
